1 Bedroom Apartment in Albufeira - Algarve, Portugal Olhos d’Agua is a popular fishing village located in-between Albufeira and Vilamoura.

Most of the activity in Olhos d’Agua is on the main street, with this road running down to the hill to beach, and the promenade, which is fringed by palms and a very pleasant stroll. Here you’ll find a fair selection of bars and restaurants.

Main street in Olhos d'Agua
While it can get quite busy in the summer months, compared with Albufeira, it is quiet resort, and out of season, very quiet indeed. Best suited to families who want a relaxing beach holiday, or as a base for exploring other areas in the Algarve. It is also a popular destination for Portuguese families, which is always a good sign. There are no nightclubs here, so if that’s what you are looking for then you’ll have to pay a visit to the ‘Strip’ at Albufeira or Vilamoura. It is 6 km to Albufeira, but only about 3 km to the Strip, where you’ll find the liveliest of the nightlife. Walking will take you about 40 minutes, although there is a regular bus service, which is cheap. Alternatively a taxi will only cost a few Euros.

Beaches in Olhos d’Agua, Algarve
Praia d’Agua, the local beach is good, made prettier by the umbrella pine trees on the cliffs and its rocky outcrops. Generally it is not too busy, but well used by local fisherman, whose boats you’ll see scattered on the beach. Nearby beaches include Praia da Falesia, probably one of the most beautiful in this part of the Algarve. It’s long, at over 8 km, and is flanked by red cliffs. It runs eastwards, all the way to Vilamoura. Another beach, Santa Eulalia is a gentle beach, ideal for young children.

Olhos D’Agua is famed for its fresh water springs which can be seen amongst the rocks when the tide is out. Interesting, if you can find them, but the 8th Wonder of the world - certainly not!

Restaurants and Bars in Olhos d’Agua, Algarve
There are quite a few good quality restaurants in Olhos d’Agua village. A selection I rate are:

Restaurante Ambrósia & Néctar is recommended. The food is good, from a typical Portuguese menu. There is a good atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff are always very friendly.
O' Golfinho Restaurant. You’ll find this on the main street running down to Olhos D'Agua beach. It has modern décor, clean and serves and international style cuisine. It is popular during the season, so worth booking in advance. It is open daily for dinner from March through November.
La Cigale. Generally regarded as one of the best restaurants in Olhos d’Agua, it occupies a great location on the beach with great views from the terrace. Specialties include Cataplana, fish and seafood. The food is very good and is represents value for money. They are open every day for both lunch and dinner. A nice touch is, that they will provide free transport to and from your accommodation if you are staying within a 5 km. radius.
Restaurante Azul. Located in a distinctive blue and white building, serving fish, seafood and grilled meats

There are plenty of bars in the village, and which one’s are best depends on what you want to get out of a bar. Many have live music and stay open late. Worth considering are the Cabana Bar, Shakers Bar or the California Bar.

Things to do in Olhos d’Agua, Algarve
There’s not a huge amount to do in Olhos d’Agua, apart from the beach, restaurants and bars. If you have hired a car however, many other places to see and things to do are only a short drive away. Water Parks, shopping and good golf courses are all close by.
In August, Albufeira (as well as many other towns in the Algarve) has its own Sardine Festival. August is the best time for Sardines. This festival, which has been going for over a decade, is hosted in Olhos d’Agua, and is a great place to enjoy good food and the live music that is laid on. It takes place at the Largo dos Pescadores.
